Learn Lab Workshop Series

A partnership between Microsoft and the Venture Café Foundation.

This partnership between the Venture Café Foundation and Microsoft will host a series of workshops at Roxbury Innovation Center designed to help innovators develop technology skills to achieve their goals.

Workshops span a wide range of topics from how to build apps to email productivity, from spreadsheet and presentation skills to special tools for learning in the classroom.

Fundamentals of Excel

When: 2/7/17 5:30pm-7:00pm

This workshop introduces users to the features of Microsoft Excel. The workshop demonstrates how to navigate cells, format spreadsheets, use functions and formulas, and set up tables. The instructor will teach from Office 2016, but will indicate differences in previous versions. Click here for more information.

Excel for Small Business

This workshop builds on the previous fundamentals class by diving a bit deeper. The workshop will cover creating PivotTables, using VLOOKUP, and absolute references. Attendees will also learn to make attractive charts and link tables in PowerPoint to present your data. The instructor will teach from Office 2016, but will indicate differences in previous versions. Blended Learning w/ Office 365

This workshop will cover the basics of presentations, from presenting in-person with PowerPoint or presenting over the web with Sway. We’ll discuss the best ways to keep your design simple, elegant, and professional, and cover not only the software of PowerPoint but the art of presentation. We’ll then introduce the new, free Microsoft tool Sway, which makes it easy to create and share interactive reports, presentations, personal stories, and more.

SBA Workshops

Are you ready for Government contracting?

The U.S. Government is the world’s largest customer – it buys all types of products and services in both large and small quantities, and it is required by law to provide opportunities for small businesses. The Small Business Administration’s Office of Government Contracting & Business Development works with other federal agencies to award at least 23 percent of all prime government contract dollars to small businesses and help federal agencies meet specific statutory goals for small disadvantaged businesses, women-owned small businesses, service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses, and small businesses that are located in historically underutilized business zones (HUBZones).

Is your Small Business in a HUBZone?

E-Commerce Basics

ECommerce is the new frontier for small businesses, and has made it possible for small business owners to compete much larger companies. In this workshop, we explain the basics of eCommerce and how to grow and (more importantly) retain customers. In the second half of the workshop, we discuss selling on Amazon. Amazon.com is the perfect marketplace for small businesses to start selling and marketing their (or someone else’s) products. We’ll discuss the strategy and tactics behind what makes a successful Amazon business.
